A group of ships from Caspian navy was put to sea for training focused on defense of oil sites from terrorist attacks in late May, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Interfax-Kazakhstan that refers to the staff headquarters of South Military District.

“The ships' crews trained in joint maneuvering. Together with marines they also trained to repel terrorists’ attacks on Caspian oil and gas platforms,” South Military District reported in a press-release.

The ships sailed 1500 miles in the Caspian Sea waters and “once again practiced coordinated actions and combat readiness,” the press-service reported.

“The sea forces carried out tasks called to ensure safety of commercial activities at sea, protect Russian maritime traffic and Caspian oil and gas producing sites,” the press-release said.

Astrakhan small gunship and MB-58 sea tug were part of the training sea fleet.
