Russia is asking Kazakhstan to retain specialization of 19 military companies, Tengrinews.kz reports citing deputy Defense Minister of Kazakhstan Talgat Zhanzhumenov as saying at the seating of the Majilis (lower chamber of the parliament).

"Russia has asked us to retain specialization of 19 different Kazakhstan companies. In return Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia are asking Russia to retain specialization of its 420 companies, because a huge number of equipment and military vehicles manufactured back in the Soviet time and after are still in use and require spare parts. Perhaps, they want to move forward and manufacture new equipment, but we are saying: keep the specialization until we stop using the armament and military vehicles," deputy Minister said.

According to him, the draft law stipulates that the CSTO's Interstate Commission for Military-Economic Cooperation will put together the lists of companies and organizations that are required to keep their profiles to the benefit of military-economic cooperation and submit the lists to the CSTO member-states for approval by their governments.

"The CSTO member-states will maintain conditions for up-keeping the specializations of the companies and organizations participating in military production and supplies of related materials and semi-finished products, spare parts, training and auxiliary materials, as well as continue performing works and services of military purposes, regardless of their form of incorporation and ownership under bilateral industrial and research cooperation," deputy Minister said during presentation of the draft law.

One of the articles of the agreement sets terms and conditions of phasing out military-purpose goods, manufactured by listed companies of the parties to the agreement. Change of the form of incorporation of the companies and decisions on participation of the companies in joint projects and production of new types of armament and military vehicles shall require approval of the authorized bodies of the parties based on their national legislations.

The deputies approved the draft law On ratification of the Agreement on retaining the specializations of companies participating in production of military-purpose commodities under the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
