Kazakhstan intends to contribute to UN peacekeeping missions, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the country’s Defense Ministry.

“To contribute to global stability and security, Kazakhstan has a strong intention to send its peacekeeping unit to join a UN mission. To this end, the Defense Ministry is working to prepare a peacekeeping unit and developing a legal framework to enable Kazakhstan’s citizens to participate in UN missions”, the Ministry’s Press Service quotes Minister Adilbek Dzhaksybekov as saying.

According to the press service, the Minister has met Great Britain’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Carolyn Browne. The sides discussed the current state and prospects of the Kazakh-British military cooperation, including withdrawal of NATO forces out of Afghanistan and participation of Kazakhstan’s military in UN peacekeeping missions.

Carolyn Browne stressed that Great Britain will render all possible support to Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping forces in their participation in peacekeeping missions.
