Head of Russia’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) Igor Artemyev believes that Russia and Kazakhstan have to settle the terms of withdrawal of Euro-2 gasoline and diesel fuel from their markets, he told Kommersant. According to him, the problem is that Kazakhstan plans to eliminate Euro-2 only by 2014, while Russia has a plan to do it in 2013. Head of the Anti-Monopoly Service says that this will create a situation when Russian companies “will continue producing fuel of this class and exporting it to Kazakhstan”. “This situation has to be discussed at the Customs Union level now. From our side, we warn that Euro-2 may create certain problems. Euro-2 will be banned in Russia, while it will be allowed in Kazakhstan. There is a range of different scenarios here and none of them are good. We have no customs borders; that’s why there is a problem. We believe that Euro-2 should no longer be allowed in Russia, but this has to be agreed upon with Kazakhstan,” Artemyev said.
