Rating of housing cost in Kazakhstan cities

The most expensive accommodation in Kazakhstan in January 2012 was registered in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Statistics Agency.

One square meter of new housing costs 239.1 thousand tenge ($1,616) in Almaty in the beginning of 2012. Astana is in the second place with 182.3 thousand tenge ($1,232) per a square meter. Accommodation in Atyrau costs a little less: 179.2 thousand tenge ($1,211) per a square meter. Shymkent is the fifth in the rating with one meter of new housing costing 154 thousand tenge ($1,041).

Zhezkazgan has the most affordable housing: 70 thousand tenge ($473) per a square meter. One square meter costs a little more in Kyzylorda (76.3 thousand tenge or $516), Taraz (82.3 thousand tenge or $556), Petropavlovsk (98 thousand tenge or $662) and Taldykorgan (100,4 thousand tenge or $678).

The neutral part of the list is made of Pavlodar (143 thousand tenge or $966), Uralsk (137 thousand tenge or $926), Kokshetau (125.8 thousand tenge or $850), Ust-Kamenogorsk (110.3 thousand tenge or $745), Semei (110 thousand tenge or $743), Karaganda (109.7 thousand tenge or $741) and Aktobe (101.7 thousand tenge or $678). The average cost for Kazakhstan is 154.1 thousand tenge ($1,041) per square meter.

Secondary housing market is a little different. Almaty is the leader with one square meter of existing housing costing 203.9 thousand tenge ($1,378). Aktau is in the second place with 194.7 thousand tenge ($1,316) per a square meter. It is followed by Astana (161.6 thousand tenge or $1,092), Petropavlovsk (134.1 thousand tenge or $906) and Kostanai (125.7 thousand tenge or $849).

Kyzylorda has the cheapest secondary housing: it costs 73.1 thousand tenge ($494) per square meter. One meter will cost 74.2 thousand tenge ($501) in Zhezkazgan. Semei (82.4 thousand tenge or $557), Karaganda (83.5 thousand tenge or $564) and Shymkent (83.5 thousand tenge or $568) to round out the list of secondary housing.

Other Kazakhstan cities have the following prices per a square meter: Kokshetau (119.4 thousand tenge or $807), Pavlodar (117.7 thousand tenge or $795), Aktobe (117 thousand tenge or $791), Atyrau (112.9 thousand tenge or $763), Taldykorgan (110.4 thousand tenge or $746), Uralsk (103 thousand tenge or $696), Ust-Kamenogorsk (101.9 thousand tenge or $689) and Taraz (89.8 thousand tenge or $607). The average cost of secondary housing in Kazakhstan is 111 thousand tenge ($750).

Almaty is the absolute leader by rental costs: 1,909 tenge ($13) per one square meter of rented housing. Astana is the second in the list: 1,865 tenge ($12.6). This list also includes Atyrau (1,255 tenge or $8.5), Petropavlovsk (901 tenge or $6.1), Ust-Kamenogorsk (844 tenge or $5.7).

The most affordable rental prices are in Taraz (614 tenge or $4), Shymkent (647 tenge or $4.4), Semei (672 tenge or $4.5), Taldykorgan (700 tenge or $4.7) and Kostanai (704 tenge or $4.8). Other Kazakhstan cities offer the following prices: Aktau (840 tenge or $5.7), Karaganda (807 tenge or $5.4), Zhezkazgan (781 tenge or $5.3), Kokshetau (759 tenge or $5), Aktobe (734 tenge or $4.9), Kyzylorda (732 tenge or $4.9), Pavlodar (723 tenge or $4.8) and Uralsk (720 tenge or $4.8). The average cost of rental housing in Kazakhstan is 847 tenge ($5.7) per one square meter.
