Processing grew 14% in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s processing industry grew 14 percent in the first half of the year, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan Ministry of Industry and New Technologies.

“According to Kazakhstan Industry Development Institute, the processing industry grew 14 percent (except for metallurgy) in the first 6 months of 2013, compared to the same period last year,” the press-service writes.

The growth was mainly driven by implementation of major industrial and infrastructure projects. 563 projects have been launched in the past 3.5 years since the state-run industrial program began,. 34 of them were launched in the first half of 2013.

“The Ministry was continuing implementation of the industrialization program In the first half of 2013. In spite of the instability of the global economy, the reviewed period had a positive dynamics of industrial development in Kazakhstan, compared to the same period of 2012,” the message states.

The production volume grew 1.8 percent, including 2.2 percent in mining. The growth in the extractive sector was propelled by production of metal ores (5.9 percent growth), base metal ores (6.4 percent), natural gas (6.6 percent) and crude oil (1.8 percent).

The growth in engineering production made 14.2 percent, while production of non-metal mineral products grew 10.4 percent. Production of precious and nonferrous metals went 6.3 percent up and pharmaceutical products production grew 1.3 percent.

According to the authority, there is a positive growth dynamics in all sectors, except for metallurgy because of unstable operations of ArcelorMittal Temirtau.

The plan is to create 13 thousand new jobs by launching projects set forth in the Industrialization Map of Kazakhstan in 2013.

Kazakhstan Minister of Industry and New Technologies named a number of goals. In particular, he instructed to make sure that the Industrialization Map’s projects scheduled for the second half of 2013 are launched on time. He also ordered development of a draft Concept of the second 5-year industrial-innovative development program by November 1, 2013.
