Kazakhstan’s oil railway transit across Azerbajan to Black Sea ports will be boosted by 3 million tons a year to 8 million tons, Novosti Kazakhstan reports, citing Azerbajan’s Transport Minister Ziya Mamedov as saying for RIA Novosti.
According to him, to this end Azerbajan Railways plans to purchase 1 600 new railway cisterns to transport oil.
Tengizchevroil consortium [current partners are: Chevron, 50 percent, KazMunaiGas, 20 percent; ExxonMobil, 25 percent and LukArco, 5 percent] refused to pump oil from Tengiz oilfield through Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan due to growing tariffs. Oil transported across the Caspian Sea to Azerbajan terminals is further transported to Georgian ports of Batumi and Kulevi by railways.
