Kazakhstan expects to harvest around 16.3 million tons of grain (net weight) by the end of the agricultural year, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Prime-Minister’s website. Kazakhstan Vice-Minister of Agriculture Muslim Amiryayev said at the meeting chaired by Kazakhstan PM Serik Akhmetov that the total sowing area of all the crops made 21.4 million hectares in Kazakhstan. Grain will be harvested from the area of 15.7 million hectares this year. As of August 2, 830 thousand tons of grain was collected from the area of 525 thousand hectares and the average yield made 15.7 percent per hectare, which is 5.8 percent more than last year. “Over 67 percent of lands are currently in good condition and over 30 percent are in satisfactory condition. In this relation, the forecast of the gross harvest of grain in net weight stands at around 16.3 million tons,” Umiryayev said. He reminded that 60 billion tenge ($400 million) were allocated by KazAgro holding to finance the sowing and harvesting campaigns. 410 thousand tons of diesel fuel was supplied for the harvesting campaign. “According to the preliminary estimations, the yield and the general gross harvest of grain is expected to be higher than in 2012,” Vice-Minister said. In his turn, the Prime-Minister stressed that the government took all necessary measures to ensure that the harvesting campaign is well-organized and the Akims (Mayors) were commissioned with constantly monitoring the course of the harvest campaign. At the end of the discussion Akhmetov instructed the Akims to render support to the farmers in preparation of the agricultural equipment, ensure fuel supplies and provide other resources. Kazakhstan Transport and Communications Ministry was instructed to provide a sufficient number of grain carrying wagons for grain transportation. The Ministry of Oil and Gas will have to provide control over timely supplies of the fuel. Earlier Vice Chairman of the KazAgro National Company Board Dauren Makhazhanov told that Kazakhstan hoped to reap 15 million tons of grain in net weight.
