“Bilateral negotiations with Guatemala on Kazakhstan's entering the WTO finished in Geneva (Swiss Confederation) and the protocol was signed on December 14,” the Ministry’s press-release states.

Prior to signing the protocol several rounds of negotiations were held to discuss the customs duties that Kazakhstan is going to apply to commodities that would economically interesting for Guatemala after entering the WTO.

“Fish, coffee, rum, flowers, tropical fruits, honey and cane sugar customs duties were discussed,” the press-release states.

The message also states that the commodities turnover between Kazakhstan and Guatemala represents “an insignificant share in the total volume of the country’s trade”. Guatemala is one of the suppliers of coffee to the Kazakhstan market.

The protocol was signed by Kazakhstan Minister of Economic Integration Zhanar Aitzhanova on behalf of Kazakhstan and Guatemalan Economy Minister Luis Antoniu Velasquez on behalf of Guatemala.
