Kazakhstan cellular operators halved costs

Prices of Kazakhstan cellular operators decreased significantly in the last year, Tengrinews.kz reports citing press-service of Kazakhstan Ministry of Communications and Information.

According to the Ministry, Beeline, one of the major cell operators in Kazakhstan, lowered the cost of calls to its competitor's networks from 27 tenge ($0.18) to 18 tenge ($1.12) per minute. Users of K’cell, Activ and Vegaline will pay 11 tenge ($0.08) per minute for their on-net calls this year; this is twice less than last year. Swedish operator Tele-2 gave that appeared in Kazakhstan only recently charges only 8 tenge ($0.05) per minute in any direction.

During the May sitting of the Foreign Investors Council Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed Minister of Communications and Information to take steps to lower cellular communication rates. On June 13, Kazakhstan Minister of Communications and Information Askar Zhumagaliyev said that the cost of voice calls between Kazakhstan cellular operators will be decreased by 40 percent by 2015.
