Finland promises innovations to Kazakhstan

Finland’s Minister of Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will render a visit to Kazakhstan in the beginning of October, Tengrinews.kz reports citing an official representative of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry Altai Abibullayev.

“Finland’s Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will render a work visit to Kazakhstan on October 2-5 to take part in the meeting of Kazakhstan-Finnish inter-government commission on trade and economic cooperation,” Abibullayev said at a briefing in Astana.

Kazakhstan will be represented by Minister of Environmental Protection Nurlan Kapparov at the meeing.

According to Abibullayev, the visit will include meetings of Alexander Stubb with Kazakhstan's Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov, deputy Prime-Minister, Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev, head of the National Bank Gregory Marchenko, chairman of Samruk-Kazyna Umirzak Shukeyev, as well as Akims (Mayors) of Astana and Almaty - Imangali Tasmagambetov and Akhmetzhan Yessimov.

“They are going to discuss the status and prospects of Kazakhstan-Finnish trade and economic cooperation, as well as the priority directions of its development. Alexander Stubb will take part in Kazakhstan-Finnish business-forum in Astana and Almaty, lecture in KIMEP university and Nazarbayev University and meet Astana cycling team. Alexander Stubb will be accompanied by a delegation of representatives of over 80 Finnish companies specializing in innovations, power saving, mining, construction, education and other areas,” Abibullayev added.

The Ministry’s representative stressed that the cooperation in innovations and new technologies, as well as attraction of Finnish investments to Kazakhstan’s economy remain the key priorities of Kazakhstan-Finnish relations.

“We consider Mr. Stubb’s visit to Kazakhstan a logical continuation and implementation of the agreements reached during Kazakhstan President’s visit to Finland,” Abibullayev stated.

The commodities turnover between Kazakhstan and Finland made $830 million in 2011, which is 74 percent more than in 2010. The turnover of the first 6 months of 2012 reached $311 million.
