Almaty city leads in the list of the most expensive housing in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing head of Kazakhstan Statistics Agency Alikhan Smailov. “In general, there is a growth of prices in the housing market in Kazakhstan. In average, the new housing prices went 13.1 percent up in all the county's regions. Re-selling price of well-furnished housing grew 17.8 percent. "The price of 1 square meter of new housing is 245 thousand tenge ($1,600) in Almaty, 209 thousand tenge ($1,400) in Atyrau, 217 thousand tenge ($1,450) in Astana and 196 thousand tenge ($1,300) in Shymkent,” Alikhan Smailov said. The least prices growth was registered in Uralsk town, where one square meter of housing got 2.2 percent more expensive and made 140 thousand tenge ($933). The prices went 4 percent up in Petropavlovsk, 5.8 percent up in Kostanay and 1.8 percent up in Aktau. “The secondary housing market saw an average increase of 18 percent: 39 percent in Astana, 2.5 percent in Almaty, 21 percent in Atyrau and 25 percent in Zhezkazgan. But the prices of one square meter in these cities are much lower than those in Almaty or Astana,” the head of the Agency said. Smailov also noted that as of January 2013 the cheapest housing was registered in Kyzylorda with the prices of 90 thousand tenge ($600) for 1 square meter and Zhezkazgan with 92 thousand tenge ($613) for 1 square meter. As for the new housing, the situation is different: one square meter of new housing costs 107 thousand tenge ($713) in Kyzylorda, 90 thousand ($600) in Taraz and 80 thousand tenge ($533) in Pavlodar and Zhezkazgan. Summing up, Smailov added that the real estate prices in Kazakhstan depended on the citizens’ paying capacity, demand and offer. By Shynar Ospanov
