Bishkek has received an official document banning meat import from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Talant Uzakbayev, a lawmaker from Ar-Namys parliamentary party, who said this at parliament plenary sitting on October 20. “Kazakhstan Veterinary Service imposed a ban on all types of products from the Kyrgyz Republic that are liable to its check due to lack of information on identification and liquidation of foot-and-mouth disease virus of Iranian origin,” Uzakbayev quoted the official document. The lawmaker said that Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture was negligent in its work and this resulted in such measures. “Ill considered actions of short-sighted Agriculture Ministry's officials caused a colossal loss to the domestic manufacturers of dairy and meat production,” Uzakbayev said. The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyz Republic decided to reduce the number of veterinary service employees at border crossing points. About two hundred veterinary employees work at checking points now, but this number will be reduced to forty in the nearest future.
