Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been relieved of his duties of the Senate (upper chamber of Parliament) Speaker today, Tengrinews.kz reports.

On March 11 he was appointed new Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).

“Tokayev will be the first Asian representative at this position [head of UN department in Jeneva]. I am sure that he will succeed. Ha has been working with me for 20 years. He is a very experienced, reputable and educated person, he has been my most important minister,” said the President in his speech addressed to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the past years have polished his political skills. He also noted that the Parliament adopted 532 laws in the last four years.

Speaking of the new Tokayev's position in UN, Nursultan Nazarbayev said that many countries were seeking this position, but the Organization's Secretary General chose Kazakhstan.
