Over 1/3 of Kazakhstanis against Muslim clothes

According to a recent study carried out by the Institute for Political Solutions, over 1/3 of Kazakhstan’s population are against wearing Muslim clothes. 38.2% of the respondents opposed to wearing Muslim clothes, arguing that popularization of Muslim symbolism in terms of clothes is not in line with the modern culture and can lead to rifts within Islam. Majority of those opposing (74.3%) come from the West of Kazakhstan. Another 37.5% of the respondents claimed to be indifferent to the issue. Most of them come from the North of Kazakhstan. Only each 6th Kazakhstan’s citizen (16%) believes Muslim clothes should be an integral part of the Islamic culture. However, clothes were not classified among the major attributes of being religious.
