President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has expressed condolences to prime-minister of Japan over the victims of the natural disaster, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to the presidential press-service.

“Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev has sent a telegram of condolence to Prime Minister of Japan Naoto Kan expressing condolence over the victims of the natural disaster that hit Japan,” Akorda posted on its website.

Earlier the ministry of foreign affairs of Kazakhstan announced that Kazakhstan Embassy in Japan is working round the clock due to the circumstances.

Today, March 11, a 10-meter tsunami raised by the 8.9 earthquake unleashed itself on the north-eastern coast of Honshu, Japan’s largest island.

At least 288 people were killed, AFP reports.

The National Police Agency said 88 people had been confirmed dead and 349 missing, with 330 others injured in the tremor.

"The death toll doesn't include the 200-300 dead bodies which were reportedly found on the beach of Sendai," a spokesman for the agency said.

Around 200 to 300 bodies were found in a part of Japan's quake and tsunami hit Pacific coast town of Sendai, according to media reports.
