Kazakhstan’s 2010 GDP exceeded combined GDP of 4 Central Asia states twofold

Kazakhstan’s 2010 GDP exceeded the combined GDP of 4 Central Asia states twofold, PM Karim Massimov said when speaking at the sitting of the Nur Otan fraction September 20, Bnews.kz reports.

“Today Kazakhstan is positioned among middle income countries such as Brazil, Malaysia and Turkey. In 2010 the national GDP exceeded $148 billion, twice more than the joint GDPs of the 4 Central Asia states [Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan]”, Massimov said.

Besides, the PM reminded that external debt of the Kazakhstan’s banking sector for the last three years had been reduced by almost $30 billion: from $46 billion in December 2007 to $16.6 billion in March 2011.

PM also emphasized that a lot of efforts had been taken to enhance the business climate. According to him, “in the current year the list of permits and licenses for business has been reduced by 331 items”.

Tengrinews.kz reported earlier, citing PM Massimov, that in the H1 2011 the number of S&MBs; grew by 8%, exceeding 600 000.

“I want to emphasize that by July 1 the number of S&MBs; (…) made up 678 000. 2.5 million are employed in the sector, over 1/3 of the economically active population”, Massimov said at a sitting [on the H1 2011 economy results] presided over by President at that time.
