The launch of KazSat-2 has been delayed due to some minor technical fault, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Mr. Ergazy Nurgaliev, Senior Secretary of the national space agency of Kazakhstan.

“It is a sophisticated vehicle. Testings have revealed minor faults… they need to be sorted out. It will take time”, he said. According to him, Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center estimates to sort out the problem by June 10.

KazSat 2 is a Kazakh communication satellite, features 12 Ku-band transponders for fixed communications and 4 Ku-band transponders for TV-transmissions and is intended for telecast, fixed satellite communication and data transmission for Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

It was to supplement the KazSat 1 satellite, but will now replace Kazsat 1 due to the complete loss of the first satellite.

Earlier Talgat Mussabayev, Head of the National Space Agency, announced that companies of France, the USA, China and Russia had submitted their respective bids to build the KazSat-3 satellite.
