Chinese President Hu Jintao has arrived in Kazakhstan on a state visit, Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry’s Press Service reports. It is his 7th visit to Kazakhstan, he earlier had said in an interview for Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper.

President Nazarbayev met him at the international airport in Astana.

The Chinese leader is expected to have talks with President Nazarbayev and Prime Minister Karim Massimov. He is also to attend the 10th anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held in Astana June 15.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an intergovernmental mutual-security organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Except for Uzbekistan, the other countries had been members of the Shanghai Five, founded in 1996; after the inclusion of Uzbekistan in 2001, the members renamed the organization. Kazakhstan is this year's rotating chair state of the SCO.
