Railway mechanical engineering output in Kazakhstan to reach 300 billion tenge by 2015

Volume of production of railway mechanical engineering in Kazakhstan will reach 300 billion tenge ($2 billion) by 2015, Tengrinews.kz reports citing head of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (national railroad company) Askar Mamin. Mamin shared the plans of railroad sector during the forum on development of Kazakhstan content on September 7.

“Gradual move to manufacturing up to five thousand wagons and creation of 550 new jobs are planned for this year. 615 cargo wagons will be manufactured. A company on production of modern railroad passenger wagons is to start operating in December jointly with Spanish Talgo. Annual production volume will make up to 150 units, 450 new jobs will be created.

"A contract with French Alstom for construction of electric locomotives in Astana will be signed by the end of the year,” Askar Mamin said.

Head of the company noted that the volume of railroad production in 2015 will reach 300 billion tenge ($2 billion). “Compared to 2008, the volume will be increased by 30 percent, from 10 billion ($68 million) to 300 billion in 2015. We are planning to fully supply railroad sector with Kazakhstan-made rolling stock and provide localization of rail machine engineering from 50 to 95 percent,” he said.
