At today’s extended sitting at the O&G Ministry, Serik Akhmetov, Kazakhstan’s PM, has tasked the country’s Oil Minister Sauat Mynbayev to pay greater attention to the large-scaled oil projects implemented at Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kashagan oilfields, a Tengrinews.kz journalist reports.

“There are a number of projects that call for greater attention. Short-term and middle-term development of the oil sector will depend on large-scaled projects. These are Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kashagan. These oilfields’ share in the overall hydrocarbons production output will make up over ½. With due consideration of the oilfields, the Oil and Gas Ministry should pay more attention to development of the related transport infrastructure, including efforts to boost the shipping capacity of the existing pipelines and come up with new routes for crude”, the PM said.

According to him, special attention should be paid to environmental issues. Besides, the issue of mutual supplies of oil and gas between Kazakhstan and Russia should be tackled: “talks are under way related to mutual supplies of oil and gas, that is of Kazakh gas to the Russia’s Orenburg-based refinery and of Russian oil to Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar-based refinery. These issues call for a balanced approach. Further development of the Karachaganak project will depend on the decisions”, Mr. Akhmetov said.

The PM urged “to have the negotiations completed by the end of the H1 2013, ensuring maximum possible protection of the national interests”.
