President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has give a start to a new titanium ingot and slab plant in East Kazakhstan Oblast during a nationwide teleconference in the end of the year, Tengrinews reports citing BNews.kz.

The new plant was opened as a part of the Industrialization Map, a large scale industrialisation project of the Kazakhstan Government. So far 770 projects have been implemented thanks to the project.

The titanium ingot and slab plant was presented by the Head of Posuk Titanium Valeriy Sychev.

“Thanks to the President’s support the project was implemented along with a South Korean company. For the first time in Kazakhstan we will produce over 6 tons of titanium ingot and slab using electric beam melting method,” Sychev said.

“This plant does not harm the environment and brings about a lot of benefits. The plant is large and has a lot of jobs. I congratulate you and wish success. As for titanium, it is the first time we have started producing it in Kazakhstan,” Nazarbayev said.

Titanium ingot and slab produced at the plant will be flat rolled into titanium sheets and tubes at POSCO plants. The products will be sold to South Korean shipbuilding companies.

Posuk Titanium was initiated in 2010 by the Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium-Magnesium Plant and South Korean POSCO. The construction of the plant started in 2011.
