Kazakhstan is negotiating gas supplies to Astana with Russia, Tengrinews reports citing the Kazakhstan Minister of Oil and Gas Uzakbai Karabalin was saying at a press briefing today. "Designing of the gas pipeline called to supply Astana was gas was completed 2012. Supplies of gas from Russia and now being discussed," Uzakbai Karabalin said, adding that a Kazakh-Russia intergovernmental commission was formed for this purpose. "Gazprom, KazMunaiGas and KazTrasGas were given a task to jointly deal with the supplies, agree on sources, volumes, terms and specify the time when these projects can be launched," the Minister said. Kazakhstan is working on expending its gas supply network through construction of the new Kartaly-Tobol-Kokshetau-Astana gas pipelines. Feasibility study has already been completed and provided that funding is available the construction itself should start in 2013, Director of Samruk-Kazyna Malik Salimgereyev said some time ago. On January 27, 2012 President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev also called to step up works to supply gas to the central areas of Kazakhstan. "Designing works should be completed and construction of the pipeline with a capacity of 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year should be started at Karachaganak oil and gas field. We have been discussing this for a long time. I am commissioning the government with starting the implementation of this project that will bring gas supply to the central regions of Kazakhstan, including its capital," he said then.
