Freight traffic on Zhetygen-Korgas railroad to make 2 million tons in 2013

The volume of freight traffic on Zhetygen-Korgas railroad will make 2 million tons in 2013, Tengrinews.kz reports citing President of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Askar Mamin as saying at the meeting in Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund. "Zhetygen-Korgas railroad has been launched and the transit transportation is already in process. We plan that this year the traffic volume will make 2 million tons," Mamin said. According to him, the capacity of this railroad is 10 million tons. The plan is to increase the freights traffic on the road starting from this year. "We plan for the annual increase. I met with Chinese colleagues, they pay a good amount of attention to this corridor. All freights to Central Asia will be transported via this corridor," Mamin said. Zhetygen-Korgas-Kazakhstan border railroad was built based on the inter-government agreement to support growing economic cooperation and commodities turnover between Kazakhstan and China. The total length of the railroad at the territory of Kazakhstan is 294km. The road passes along the south coast of Kapshagai water reservoir. The corridor reduced the distance of railroad freight transportation to China by 500km. The project included construction of 4 new stations and junctions, expansion of Zhetygen railroad station, which is the station where the new railroad line connects. By Baubek Konyrov
