Astana residents and guests will be able to enjoy free Internet in the city's buses starting from July 1, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of Astana Mayor’s office.

Astana’s Deputy Mayor Nurali Aliyev had a meeting with the CEO of one of the largest service providers in Kazakhstan Beeline Kazakhstan Taras Parkhomenko, during which they agreed to launch free Internet in 100 buses in Astana this year.

According to the Mayor’s office, free Internet will be available in 50 buses starting from July 1 and in another 50 buses starting from October 1.

“The global growth in the use of smartphones and tablets dictates its own trends. There is a real need for a high-speed mobile Internet access among the city residents. One of the most important advantages of this project is that Internet will be available to all the passengers regardless of their affiliation to a certain service provider,” Nurali Aliyev said.

Astana is one of the last cities to have its buses equipped with free Internet. Almaty residents have been using this service since this year’s February, albeit the northern city of Kazakhstan – Petropavlovsk – was the first city where free Internet in buses was introduced in 2013.
