Former Kazakhstan Healthcare Minister Zhaksylyk Doskaliyev calls Kazakhstan citizens not to be afraid of donorship. The famous surgeon says he is ready to sacrifice his organs to a dear person right away, Express-K writes.

“I can write the statement here and now that I agree to donate my organs after my death. Please understand that one dead person can save five sick persons,” he said in the interview.

According to Doskaliyev, Kazakhstan doctors are ready for organs transplantation, but there are no donors. “I think many still remember the name of Astana citizen Igor Vorotnikov who donated the organs of his mother to save two people. Igor is a real hero for me. I think that the names of people like him should be engraved in the history of our country,” the ex-Minister said. “I hope that Vorotnikov becomes an example for hundreds of Kazakhstan citizens who are standing against transplantation.”

The speaker noted that no religion bans a human for sharing his organs after death. “Even Saudis go to foreign hospitals for transplantation. I assure you that nobody needs the organs in the grave: only the soul goes up to heaven,” Doskaliyev said.

On August 2011 Zhaksylyk Doskaliyev was sentenced to 7 years in colony for embezzlement of budget money. However, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev granted pardon to the official and he was released on March 16, 2012.

Zhaksylyk Doskaliyev is now head of transplantation center in the National Scientific Medical Center in Astana. The surgeon and his colleagues from South Korea have recently performed a complicated surgery - a liver transplantation.

Doskaliyev and his family are very thankful to the President for the pardon. “Despite of his business, he found time to review my application and study the criminal case. Thanks to him, I am back to the operating table,” the former Minister said.

Doskaliyev stated that he had no intention to leave the country after the recent events. “My family lives here and my favorite job is here. These are not sonorous words, as my country has invested a lot in me. The time has come to pay the debts. I owe Kazakhstan and our people,” he said.

The surgeon believes it necessary to bring the transplantation service to a new level. “5 thousand Kazakhstan citizens need organs transplantation annually, while only 10 kidney transplantations, 4 liver and 1 heart transplantation have been performed so far,” he noted.
