Surgeons of National Center for Neurosurgery in Astana have conducted a surgery to remove a brain tumor located close to motor cortex. It was the first time such surgery was made in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing 24.kz.

The surgery lasted for three hours, and all this time the patient Samat Bekmagambetov remained conscience and contact with the surgeons. This was needed to monitor his condition, because the timor was located close to the brain's  motor cortex, an region of the cerebral cortex involved in the planning, control, and execution of voluntary movements (including speech).

According to the doctors, the operation was difficult because even a small mistake could deprive the patient of his ability to speak and move coherently.

“The patient had headaches, dizziness, sleep disorder and impaired coordination. He was a neurosurgeons (who diagnosed him with the brain tumor) and offered him the brain surgery. The surgery required the patient to remain conscious so that doctors could control his speech and motor functions,” neurosurgeon Aidos Doskaliyev said adding that its was the first time such surgery was made in Kazakhstan.

The surgery was successful. Samat Bekmagambetov feels good and is recovering quickly. "I was determined, and I did my best to help the doctors who were operating and stay calm. i am greatly to the doctors and professors for the surgery," he said.
