Consequences of the crash of Proton-M rocket carrier with 3 Glonass satellites at Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan may be revealed as abnormalities in the genome years later, Kyzylodra-news.kz writes citing director of the Aral Regional Center of Ecology and People’s Health Protection Smagul Seitov as saying at the meeting in Kyzylorda oblast administration.

According to the ecologist, the fact that there has been no effect on the local population’s health right after the accident does not mean that the spilled heptyl fuel has not done any harm to their health.

According to the meeting’s participants, the possibility of lowering of heptyl concentrations and fully banning its use have been discussed since 1994 for almost two decades already. Heptyl is currently the cheapest and the most hazardous rocket fuel. The whole world has already stopped using it. Heptyl should be replaced with another fuel of higher quality and greater environment-friendliness, they said.

According to the newspaper, representatives of Kazakhstan non-government organizations have called Russia to compensate the inflicted damage. It was decided to hold public hearings that should involves all categories of citizens.
