Kazakhstan citizens are very concerned with a surge of diabetes in the country. A flashmob in support of anti-diabetes campaign was held in Almaty in mid November and got into the CIS Book of Records, Tengrinews.kz reports.

The flashmob was held on November 14, the World Diabetes Day, at the square next to the Republic Palace. The participants of the event received blue raincoats and blue balloons. They formed up a live blue ring that is the international symbol of countering diabetes. The participants also received booklets with information about diabetes and methods of its prevention. The event also included a concert with participation of famous Kazakhstan singers.

The ring was 88 meters long and 8.5 meters thick. The total of 1,120 people formed the ring. This information was submitted to the representatives of Russia's Book of Records.

"This is the biggest anti-diabetes blue ring. It will be included into the CIS Book of Records. I congratulate you," President and editor-in-chief of Russia's Book of Records Aleksey Svistunov said. "The anti-diabetes flashmob in Almaty was the first in the CIS and opened a new category," Svistunov added.

The number of people suffering from diabetes around the world is increasing every year. The statistics of 2011 shows that the number of diabetics doubled over the last 30 years and made 350 million people.

A surge of diabetes has also been registered in Kazakhstan, where the threshold of diabetes was exceeded. The total number of diabetics in the country made over 700 thousand people in 2011. The escalation of the disease is attributed to growth of the population's size, aging of the population and increase of the number of people with obesity.
