The trade turnover between Great Britain and Kazakhstan grew 124 percent in 2011, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Lord Mayor of London David Wootton as saying at the press-conference in Almaty after arrival in Kazakhstan with a work visit.

According to Ambassador of Great Britain to Kazakhstan David Moran, the export totaled 530 billion pounds in 2011, while the import totaled 59 billion pounds. "These values increased by 124 percent compared to 2010," he said.

Wootton noted that both countries had been partners since Kazakhstan's independence. Great Britain's investments to Kazakhstan have exceeded 50 billion pounds since 1991.

"Great Britain is trying to establish clear trade connection between the countries. A bilateral trade agreement was signed in 2010-2011. The total volume of trade between the two countries has almost doubled in two years and the trade connections keep growing," the Lord Mayor said.

Lord Mayor of London later met with Almaty Akim (Mayor) Akhmetzhan Yessimov and chairman of Kazakhstan National Bank Gregory Marchenko. He then went to Astana to discuss a range of education issues.
