Kazakhstan’s National Bank has suspended licenses of three Kazakhstan-based banks for transactions involving cash foreign currencies, according to the National Bank’s Committee for Financial Market Supervision.

“The National Bank ruled July 26 to suspend licenses of Eurasian, Halyk and Citibank Kazakhstan for transactions involving cash foreign currencies [currency exchange services]; the licenses have been suspended for a month-long period”, the statement reads.

The three banks “had violated the country’s legislation on counteraction to laundering illicitly obtained income and interaction to financing of terrorism (…) to have the licenses resumed, the banks are supposed to take measures to rectify gaps in the internal control procedures”, the statement reads.

The suspension is not to the detriment of cashless transactions, cashing in/withdrawing foreign currencies to/from clients’ accounts, opening foreign currency-denominated accounts. Servicing of deposits and accounts of both individuals and legal entities shall be as usual.
