The National Bank released commemorative silver coins dedicated to the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization), Tengrinews.kz reports citing National Bank of Kazakhstan press-service. “National Bank of Kazakhstan announces release of commemorative silver proof quality coins with a nominal value of 500 tenge, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of signing of the Collective Security Treaty and the 10th anniversary of establishment of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” the National Bank’s press-release reads. The national emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan framed by ornamental eight-point rosace and ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ lettering in Kazakh is depicted in the upper part of the obverse. The CSTO emblem is depicted in the central part of the reverse of the coin. The lettering 20 years of the ratification of the Collective Security Treaty in Russian and the years 1992 and 2012 that stand for the 20-year period since the Treaty was signed into existence is written on the inner circle of the coin. Corbelled edging and 10 years of the Collective Security Treaty Organization lettering in Russian and years 2002 and 2012 that stand for the year of establishment of the organization and the year of coin’s mintage are placed on the external circle of the coin. The images and letterings on the obverse and reverse of the coin are three-dimensional. The proof-quality coin is 38.61 mm in diameter, it has ribbed side surface and its mintage is 2000 copies. It weighs 31.1 grams and is made of sterling silver. The National Bank press-service reports that besides their collector value, the commemorative coins of 500 tenge denomination are accepted in accordance with their nominal value at the territory of Kazakhstan for any kind of payments and also for crediting accounts, deposits, letters of credit and also for bank transfers. The coins can be exchanged in all banks of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The design of the coin was developed along the Concept of National Currency (Kazakhstan tenge) Banknotes and Coins Design that was approved by the presidential decree on September 25, 2003: “Commemorative proof quality silver coins are meant for selling according to their collectors’ value. They are released in souvenir packaging and have the numbered National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan certificates that are available in Russian, Kazakh and English. Those who wish to purchase the coins could do so in any National Bank’s office.” The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is an intergovernmental alliance which was signed on 15 May 1992. On 7 October 2002, Presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed a charter in Tashkent founding the CSTO. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in the CSTO summit in Moscow, where he suggested that the Collective Security Treaty Organization jointly respond to emergency situations.
