Almaty is over-saturated with bank loans, Ranking.kz writes. 63 percent of all the loans in Kazakhstan fall on Almaty citizens, with overdue loans amounting to over $10 billion. The total amount of loans issued in Kazakhstan made 9.9 trillion tenge ($66 billion) as of January 2013. Almaty is ranked number one with the amount of loans totaling at 6 trillion tenge ($41.6 billion). It is followed by Astana (1 trillion tenge or $6.7 billion). North-Kazakhstan oblast is the last in the list with loans totaling at 89.5 billion tenge ($596 million). 82 percent of all the consumer loans in Kazakhstan are concentrated in Almaty. In just one year the volume of overdue loans in Almaty increased by 16 percent, i.e. by 222.3 billion tenge ($1.5 billion) in one year. The overdue loans in Kazakhstan made 1.9 trillion tenge ($13 billion) as of the end of January 2013. Almaty is in the first place by the amount of overdue loans: they are worth 1.6 trillion tenge ($10 billion). It is followed by Astana with citizens owing 87.4 billion tenge ($583 million) to banks. Kyzylorda oblast is on the last place in the list with the amount of overdue debts totaling at 4.8 billion tenge ($32 million). This drives the banks to expand their geography, look for new niches and more actively tap into new regions. It lookes like they have been doing this over the past year: “The volume of loans in Almaty oblast grew 40 percent in just one year, 34 percent in Kyzylorda oblast, 24.5 percent in Mangistau and Karaganda oblast,” the website writes. Situation with performing loans (net loans without delays) is quite different: Almaty lost 3 percent with it share of good loans going down to 58.3 percent, while Astana gained over 1 percent, Karaganda oblast gained 0.4 percent and Almaty oblast gained 0.3 percent. The amount of performing loans in Kazakhstan made 7.9 trillion tenge ($53 billion) as of the end of January 2013. This amount made 4.6 trillion tenge ($31 billion) in Almaty, 916 billion tenge ($6.1 billion) in Astana and 78.8 billion tenge ($525 million) in North-Kazakhstan oblast.
