Bereke residential complex at the crossing of Kenessary and Sembinov streets in Astana caught fire, Tengrinews.kz reports. The fire started at around 7:00 p.m. on April 28. According to witnesses, the nearby two-story dormitory was the first to go on fire. It burnt to ashes, witnesses say. The fire jumped from the dormitory to the neighboring Bereke complex. According to the citizens, the building was built 5 years ago and has never been officially put into operation. People have been living in it, however. They were all evacuated. Some of them who came from work late couldn't even to pick up their documents and valuables. Fire-fighters had to carry oxygen bottles to enter the building. There was a huge difficulty with water: the nearest hydrants were located 300-500 meters away. Fire-fighters tried opening manholes next to the building, but could not get water even from them. The fire-fighters had to make up a whole network of fire hoses to finally supply water to the site on fire. Police cordoned the whole area. The cars parked next to the building were blocking access of rescue teams. A tow truck had to be dispatched to tow the cars away. No casualties were reported, emergency doctors said. This residential complex already caught fire two years ago. According to Astana Emergency Situations Department’s press-service, the fire was localized at 9:49 p.m. the same day.
