Kazakhstan to provide humanitarian aid to Serbia

26 may 2014, 20:26

Kazakhstan will render humanitarian aid to Serbia, Tengrinews reports referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

Serbia was hit by a catastrophic flood, and upon its request Kazakhstan will provide urgent humanitarian aid, which includes tents, drinking water, clothes, and medical supplies to Serbia, the Kazakh Ministry announced.

On May 15 Serbia declared a nation-wide state of emergency because of the floods caused by torrential rains, the heaviest in the past 120 years.

Three people drowned and more than 30 thousands were evacuated, AFP reports.

In addition, 1,750 buildings were wiped out and another 2,250 were flooded, besides the entire city of Obrenovac, the one that was affected the most.

The European Union, Russia, Belarus and Balkan countries are providing assistance to Serbia in evacuating people and eliminating the aftermath of the floods.
