The investigation into the causes of the crash of Challenger-200 aircraft near Almaty will not be completed this year, Kazakhstan Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications Azat Bekturov told Tengrinews.kz.

Bekturov did not give any deadlines, but said that the investigation should be over by 2014. “Not this year, for sure,” he added.

“The investigation is underway. We met with Canadian and American experts in Canada and watched presentations on all possible versions. After that they came here. Parts of avionics from the plane are now being analyzed in the United States. We have to go pick them up. This is a normal process. None of the stages are being delayed,” the Vice-Minister said.

“We want to hold a big meeting next month and it is critical for us to have everyone attend it: Canadians, Americans, the Interstate Aviation Commission and us. There are still some unanswered questions, including, honestly, those that should be dealt with here in Kazakhstan. We have not yet fully studied the results of the forensic tests and the exact causes of the crew members’ death. This is critical for us. This will be next year,” Bekturov added.

On January 29 a Bombardier airplane owned by Scat airline crashed during landing 7km from Almaty airport. According to the prosecutors, the plane was performing a Kokshetau-Almaty flight. The accident claimed lives of 5 crew members and 16 passengers, including a 2-y.o. child.
