Five avalanches happened close to Almatau resort in Almaty oblast, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Emergency Situations Ministry.

"5 avalanches slid down to Koturbulak river. The total volume of avalanches made around 1.1 million cubic meters. The avalanches broke 2 power line posts crippling power supply to Almatau resort," the Ministry's message states.

On March 17 a man died in an avalanche at Shymbulak ski resort near Almaty. The 1,500-2,000 cubic meter avalanche slid down at around 4:30 p.m. Astana time. There were 6 people at the slope at the time. Four of them got out of snow on their own. One snowboarder was saved by a rescue team.
