A criminal case was initiated after the accident during landing of Scat aircraft in Almaty airport, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of the Transport Interior Department of Kazakhstan Interior Ministry.

According to the Department, the An-24RV aircraft with the board number UP-AN41 performing Taraz-Almaty flight landed on February 7 outside of the runway strip in Almaty airport, touching the ground outside the runway with its left back landing wheels.

"As a result of such landing the front landing wheel touched the ground after only 40 meters. Running 580 meters in the emergency mode, the aircraft stopped in the snow next to the runway strip," the press-service writes.

There were 20 passengers onboard, including two under-aged children, and 4 crew members. The Police Department in Almaty airport has initiated a criminal case over violation of safety rules and rules of aircraft exploitation that create a threat of severe consequences.

"The investigation is currently underway to define all the circumstances of the accident," the press-service states.

On January 29 a Bombardier airplane owned by Scat airline crashed 7km from Almaty airport during its second attempt to land. According to the prosecutors, the plane was performing a Kokshetau-Almaty flight. The accident claimed lives of 5 crew members and 16 passengers including a 2-year-old boy.
