10 people have died in a bus accident in Kazakhstan’s south, Tengrinews reports.
The tragic accident occurred in Zhambyl Oblast on the 394th kilometre of Almaty-Yekaterinburg highway, not far from Priozyorsk town, on February 9. The Vanhool bus was following from Astana to Shymkent. The road was covered with black ice in places and the bus slid into a roadside ditch and flipped over, killing 10 of its passengers.
The Emergency Ministry rescue services urgently evacuated four injured to Priozyorsk city hospital. Among them were three men, one of them from Kyrgyzstan, and a pregnant woman. According to the doctors, the baby is not in danger. The woman and one of the three man were transported to a hospital in Balkhash town.
The Kyrgyz national was discharged from the hospital for outpatient treatment after he was examined by the doctors. The fourth injured was transferred to Almaty for treatment at the request of his family.
The police said the driver was detained for questioning.
"The bus driver has been detained. Pre-trial investigation into the road accident has been launched in Zhambyl Oblast. The cause of the accident is being established, a number of forensic examinations have been appointed," the police said.
