Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov instructed to make creation of vocational training centers part of major chemical projects, Tengrinews.kz reports.

“The Education Ministry should not be training personnel for such a difficult sector alone. New companies should open their own vocational training centers. Take the chemical parks in Taraz and Atyrau for example. Why don’t the companies apply the dual education system? If that doesn’t happen, the state will never be able to train highly qualified professionals for them. If they ask for quotas, the government will provide. The same issue is raised in oil and gas sector and everywhere else. We have ended up with Astana being the place experiencing the most deficit of construction workers, lacking welders and crane-men. Here is an instruction for the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies: work out a suggestion jointly with the Education Ministry and let’s open the education centers as part of major projects,” Akhmetov said at the government meeting.

Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev said at the Cabinet meeting that there was a deficit of qualified personnel in the country.

“There is currently a deficit of personnel. According to the calculations, implementation of the projects will require at least 15 thousand highly-qualified professionals by 2020, including 3,000 with higher education, 2,000 with vocational education and the rest with fine skills in their areas. We plan to review and update the education programs considering the requirements of the newly introduced production facilities,” he said.
