Two Kazakhstan citizens enter US universities

Two Kazakhstan citizens, Ilias Kameledinov and Abylai Akhmetov, have been enrolled in the leading military universities of the U.S. Armed Forces. Then U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kenneth J. Fairfax passed the enrollment certificates to them, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan Defense Ministry. A graduate of Nazarbayev Univeristy Abylai Akhmetov received the certificate of enrollment in Military Academy at West Point. Ilias Kameledinov who graduated from Arystan specialized lyceum got enrolled in the Navy Academy of the U.S. Armed Forces. Selection of the candidates for enrollment in the U.S. universities started in October 2012. The selection was made by the Department of the Military Education and Science of Kazakhstan Defense Ministry. After preparation of their documents and passing a medical check with the military authorities, the candidates passed a special check and an interview in the U.S. Embassy, passed tests on physical condition and knowledge of English (TOEFL and SAT). The number of foreign students admitted to these universities is normally limited. Only two students received a chance to enter the prestigious universities out of many candidates from Kazakhstan, the Ministry wrote. Kazakhstan students will study for 4 years. Their education will be paid for from the U.S. budget. Kazakhstan undertook to pay for their vacations period. Upon their return to Kazakhstan, the students will have to continue serving in the Kazakhstan Armed Forces for at least 10 years. The young people will sign a contract with the Kazakhstan army before leaving for their studies.
