International Contest of Construction Professional Skills was held in Astana. Vocational colleges’ students from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Russia took part in the contest, Tengrinews.kz reports. 11 teams took part in the competitions held on May 15-17 at the Politechnical College of Astana. KNAUF, a global producer and supplier of construction materials is the key organizer of the event. The participants demonstrated their skills in dry construction method. Their task was to make one-layer paneling of metal-framed partition wall. These walls are used in modern construction. The walls are light and easy to assemble, but strong. Experts said that these walls are well-known for their safety and are used in earthquake-prone regions of Kazakhstan. During competition Sergey Adiyanov, KNAUF Educational Projects Department representative in Central Asia, was asked if Kazakhstan constructors are better constructors than those from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan (who are in great demand both in Russia and Kazakhstan). He said that “Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan migrant workers, who work in Russia and Kazakhstan are often under-qualified in modern technologies. There are some professional and skilful workers among them, however most of the constructors hold no certificates and the quality of their work is poor,” he said. Petropavlovsk-based North Kazakhstan Vocational Pedagogic College (Kazakhstan) won the first place in the competition. The team was led by Ivan Slipetskiy and Tatyana Danilova and included Alexandr Sedeshov and Anastassiya Yanina. By the way, it was the only team where one of its members was a girl. Novokuznetsk Construction Vocational College (Russia) won the second place and Hamzinsk Construction College (Uzbekistan) won the third place.
