Afghan students will be checked by psychologists and special services prior to entering Kazakhstan universities, Tengrinews.kz reports.

"We know this country and the situation there. Who selects the citizens coming to our country? You know that Kazakhstan had boarding schools for Afghan children during Soviet time. These children had no idea of the society and could not adapt in the community. There is now a concern whether this will repeat itself when the students for education in Kazakhstan are selected," senator Orynbai Rakhmanberdiyev told Kazakhstan Minister of Education and Science during discussion of the draft law on the amendments to the Agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Afghanistan on cooperation in education. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that this draft law provides for 1,000 Afghan citizens' studies in Kazakhstan universities.

"The most important is that during signing of this agreement we discussed that a special commission would be made of representatives of the universities, National Security Commission, Healthcare Ministry and other central executive bodies, that's why the matter of their (Afghan students') participation was not a issue as long as citizens of Kazakhstan make the selection. We know the situation in Afghanistan and that different movements are present there. That's why the students will be selected by Kazakhstan citizens," Minister of Education and Science said.

The Senate's Commission for Social and Cultural Development suggested to include the psychologists into the commission selecting Afghan students for education in Kazakhstan universities.
