Kairat Lama Sharif, Head of the Agency for Religion, believes that the recent suicide bombings are not related to the law on religion, he told that in an interview for Megapolis newspaper. “Extremism, killings and suicide bombings have nothing to do with Islam. I am confident we shouldn’t go on the leash of extremists. With time they might be even more demanding. It has nothing to do with religion”, Lama Sharif said. He said the Agency had received 1237 letters from the public at large in support of the law on religion adopted October 25, 2011. According to him, common people are making suggestions on how to improve the law. “We are taking these suggestions into account … I am glad to see people are not against the law”. Lama Sharif also informed on the Agency’s work to counter terrorism. Local bodies to regulate religion issues have been launched in all country’s regions, according to him. “In particular, each such local body is staffed with imams and experts on religious issues. They are engaged in educative activities, notably in those regions that have witnessed to terror acts. This way we are maintaining stability amidst the population”, he said.
