Prosecutors and lawyers involved in the case of Zhanaozen clashes spoke of an influence of some “third power” in the events of December 16, 2011, Lada writes. Participants of the process exchanged opinions during the hearing of arguments on May 15. The prosecutors were the first to speak about the “third power” during the court hearings. The lawyers used this fact as an argument to protect the defendants, calling to declare them not guilty and punish that “third power”. The lawyer representing the interests of Saktaganov, Aminov, Telegenov and Zhussipbayev even gave the names of those who have to be punished instead of her clients. According to the lawyer of Batiyeva, head of Alga! Party’s organization committee Vladimir Kozlov, leader of Alga! Party in Mangistau oblast Aizhangul Amirova, Aleksander Pyastolov who protected the interests of oil workers before and after Zhanaozen clashes, as well as former Akim (Mayor) of Zhanaozen Orak Sarbopeyev and one of the managers of KazMunaiGas Vladimir Miroshnikov have to face the trial. In reply to the lawyer’s statement, the state prosecutors stated that the named persons will be also brought to criminal responsibility and the trial against them is on the way. Meanwhile, the defendants were offered to make their final statements at the hearing. None of them pledged guilty. Besides, defendant Saktaganov stated that he defamed the strike member Roza Tuletayeva during the investigation. There are no details on what the defendant lied to court about. The trial on Zhanaozen clashes started in Aktau on March 27. Criminal cases were initiated against 37 people. The prosecutors requested up to 9 years in jail for the accused persons. The date of the ruling announcement is yet unknown. The clashes happened in Zhanaozen on December 16, 2011. 14 people were killed and 64 people were wounded during the riots. 11 people were wounded and 1 was killed during the clashes in Shetpe village the next day. 40 police officers were injured.
