Man charged with spreading rumours of banks' insolvency holds overdue loan from Kaspi Bank

Darkhan Sabdenov, who was charged with distributing misleading information about insolvency of three Kazakhstan banks and arrested for 20 days, had failed to repay his loan to Kaspi Bank, Tengrinews reports citing Bostandyk District Court of Almaty.

According to the case files, after Sabdenov stopped repaying his loan Kaspi Bank filed a lawsuit against him and requested the court of arrest the debtor's property to guarantee repayment of his nearly 2 million tenge ($10,800) debt.

Kaspi Bank Executive Director Sabyrzhan Berkinbayev confirmed that the bank extended a loan to Darkhan Sabdenov and after the latter stopped repaying it the bank filed a lawsuit against him.

"Sabdenov stopped repaying the loan. After the loan was more than 270 days overdue a lawsuit was filed a part of a standard procedure," he said.

Darkhan Sabdenov, 30, former employee of CenterCredit Bank, has been charged with distributing misleading information about alleged bankruptcy of Kazakhstan tree banks. The Prosecutor’s Office of Almaty has initiated an administrative case against Sabdenov on Article 136-1 of the Administrative Offences Code of Kazakhstan - Damage to property via false pretences or abuse of trust. Besides, Kaspi Bank, CenterCredit Bank and Alliance Bank are expected to file separate lawsuits against him to claim the damages.
