Kazakhstan taekwondo champion's case dragged in London

The next hearing of the case of Kazakhstan taekwondo champion Azamat Tenizbayev accused of sexual harassment of a British woman has been scheduled for January 6, 2014, his coach Arman Chilmanov told KazTAG. “The hearing and the preliminary study of the case were held today. The next hearing has been appointed to January 6, 2014. But probably it will be held sooner than that,” Chilmanov said on September 5. Tenizbayev currently lives in a rented apartment in London. According to him, Kazakhstan Embassy in Great Britain and Taekwondo Federation are supporting the sportsman. The first hearing was held on August 23. Tenizbayev's lawyer managed to convince the judge that Tenizbayev signed his confession because of lack of English, not because he was guilty. The lawyer asked the judge to set a bail for the sportsman and the judge agreed. The 18.y.o. Kazakhstan sportsman was arrested in London on charges of sexual harassment. The incident happened when the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Team was returning from the world championship in Mexico. The team was flying to Kazakhstan via London, where the sportsman was arrested. Tenizbayev went into an argument with a young lady sitting next to him. A flight attendant came up to them as she received a complaint from one of the passengers -- a different lady not the one sitting next to Azamat -- who thought that the young lady was sexually harassed by the sportsman. The accusation came as a surprise for the sportsmen, they both denied that anything of such manner was going on and it seemed that the flight attendant agreed that the incident was settled. But since the police later boarded the flight it must have been that the lady who complained to the flight attendant decided to file a complaint to the police.
