A man from Lithuania and a woman from Kazakhstan were apprehended in London in suspicion of human trafficking, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Belarus near-border commission.

According to the commission, the suspects forced young women from former soviet space to render sexual services by threatening and locking them up. They invited the women to Great Britain as if to work.

The operation on discovery of the international channel on women trafficking was held by Belarus law-enforcement and near-border authorities in cooperation with their colleagues from Great Britain after Belarus officers found many advertisements on the Internet inviting the women from Belarus and other CIS countries to work in escort services in Great Britain.

“Initial check-up confirmed that an organized criminal group consisting of citizens of different countries is behind these offers. It turned out that many women got on this ‘hook’ between 2008 to 2011, including our citizens, who were then transported outside their country,” Belarus authority’s message states.

The members of the international organized criminal group were trafficking their victims abroad using fake documents. Several criminal cases have been initiated against the citizens of Lithuania and Kazakhstan and they have been arrested.
