Eleven killed in Minsk metro blast: Lukashenko

12 april 2011, 01:02
Eleven people were killed Monday in a blast that struck a metro station in the heart of the Belarussian capital Minsk, AFP reports quoting Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko as saying.

The Belarus leader also told an emergency security meeting that around 100 people were wounded in the explosion, which struck just outside his main office and primary residence.

"Eleven people died as a result of the explosion," Interfax quoted Lukashenko as saying, before calling for a moment of silence to honour the dead.

Belarus believes the metro blast is likely an 'act of terror', Interfax reports.
