Kazakhstan Secretary of State Marat Tazhin has handed awards and grants to the journalists and awarded President’s Commendations to Media. Tengrinews.kz was one of the recipients of the President’s Commendation. Kazakhstan President’s awards were given to Editor-in-Chief of Alash Ainassy newspaper Zhanbolat Serikbek and Director General of Channel 1 Eurasia Sergey Kisselyov. The President’s grants were awarded to journalist of Khabar agency Artyom Istomin and author and host of Syrlassu Show on Astana channel Aigerim Abildina. The President’s commendations were passed to the following media outlets: Tengrinews.kz team (received by Director General of Alash Media Group Batyr Kazybayev), Aktyubinskiy Vestnik newspaper (received by its Editor-in-Chief Aigul Nurkeyeva), Kostanay’s TV and radio company Alau (received by its Director Zulfiya Arefyeva), Druzhnye Rebyata national newspaper for children (received by its Editor-in-Chief Almzhan Akbarov). “This is for the first time in the history of the President’s awards and grants that we are acknowledging one of the websites. I think this speaks volumes. However, acknowledging importance of new formats, we should not forget about development of high-quality content. Regardless of the package a information product comes in, basic journalism values shall remain unchanged: objectivity, credibility and balance of information,” Tazhin said at the ceremony. This year the number of the President’s Awards and Grants to Best Journalists has been reduced from regular 6 to 2: “This makes getting the presidential awards and grants much more prestigious. I honestly hope that all our winners will justify the high trust of the President,” Tazhin said. This year 79 candidates were fielded for the public commission consideration, including 66 journalists and 13 teams. 43 candidates were put forth by print media, 23 by electronic media, 11 by public unions and 2 by state authorities.
